Description
Zepbound Prefilled Syringe (Tirzepatide) 12.5 mg/0.5 mL is indicated for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or those who are overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity. Tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that regulates blood glucose and promotes weight reduction through appetite suppression and delayed gastric emptying.
The injection is administered subcutaneously once weekly in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Injection sites should be rotated to minimize the risk of localized skin reactions. It may be used with or without food. When used alongside insulin or insulin secretagogues, the risk of hypoglycemia increases and requires careful glucose monitoring and potential dose adjustments.
Zepbound carries a boxed warning for the potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. It is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Patients should be monitored for signs of pancreatitis and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
