It functions by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm penetration, and altering the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. This patch provides a steady daily release of 150 mcg of norelgestromin and 35 mcg of ethinyl estradiol, maintaining consistent hormone levels throughout the wear period.

The patch is applied once weekly for three consecutive weeks, followed by a patch-free week to allow for withdrawal bleeding. It is designed for placement on clean, dry skin areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, back, or upper arm, avoiding areas with irritation or excessive friction. If a patch becomes loose or detached, it must be replaced immediately to maintain contraceptive efficacy.

Common side effects include nausea, headache, breast tenderness, mood changes, and skin reactions at the application site. Serious risks include an increased likelihood of thromboembolic events, hypertension, and cardiovascular complications, particularly in smokers over the age of 35.
