Description

Vancomycin 500mg/10mL is an injectable antibiotic solution indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by Gram-positive organisms. It is particularly effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), enterococcal infections, and other multi-drug-resistant bacteria. The formulation is provided in a single-dose vial containing 500 mg of vancomycin in 10 mL of sterile solution, intended for intravenous administration.

Vancomycin acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death. It binds to the D-alanyl-D-alanine portion of the bacterial cell wall precursor, preventing peptidoglycan polymerization. This disruption in cell wall synthesis makes it an effective treatment for serious infections where other antibiotics may be ineffective.

The drug is administered intravenously, usually over a period of 1 to 2 hours, depending on the patient’s condition and the infection being treated. Careful monitoring of renal function and blood levels is recommended, as vancomycin can cause nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, particularly at high doses or with prolonged use.
