Description
Trumenba is a 0.5 ml prefilled syringe containing white suspension for injection. The vaccine is indicated for active immunization for people older than 10 years for the prevention of Neisseria Meningitidis induced invasive meningococcal infections. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children younger than 10 years of age.
This meningococcal vaccine is composed of two binding proteins of recombinant lipidated factors (fHbp) that are present on the meningococci bacterial surface which helps bacteria avoid the immune defense of the host. Immunization stimulates the formation of bactericidal antibodies which recognize bacterial fHbp.
The administration of dosage is followed as a primary series and a booster dose. The primary series follows two doses (each of 0.5ml) given at 6 months of intervals, and 3 doses later ( 2 doses of 0.5ml given one month apart, and the third dose is given at least 4 months after the second dose). A booster dose is given to individuals who are at perpetual risk of invasive meningococcal infection. The deltoid muscle of the upper arm is the preferred site of injection. Postpone vaccination in people with acute febrile illness.
