Description
Violet Coated VICRYL™ 0 CTX 27" Suture is a synthetic absorbable suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The braided structure of the suture provides excellent handling characteristics and superior knot security, including reliable performance on the first throw. The suture is uniformly coated with a polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate mixture, which enhances smooth passage through tissue and minimizes tissue drag.
The suture is violet in color for high visibility during surgical procedures. It is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including ophthalmic surgeries. However, it is not intended for use in cardiovascular or neurological tissues due to its absorbable nature and mechanical profile. VICRYL™ sutures are commonly used in applications such as muscle or fascial closure, reproductive tract repair, and as a secondary option in orthopedic procedures.
VICRYL™ retains approximately 50% of its original tensile strength at three weeks post-implantation. This strength retention period allows adequate support to healing tissues during the initial phase of wound healing. After this period, strength declines as the suture begins to hydrolyze.
