Description
MONOCRYL™ Monofilament Suture, Undyed, 18", Size 4-0, is a sterile, synthetic absorbable suture composed of a copolymer of glycolide and e-caprolactone. It is designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation, offering predictable absorption and minimal tissue reactivity. The monofilament construction ensures smooth passage through tissue with reduced drag and eliminates the risk of fraying, common with braided sutures.
This suture produces significantly less tissue reaction compared to chromic gut, making it suitable for delicate and clean surgical fields. It maintains approximately 30–40% of its original tensile strength after one week and then rapidly degrades, with complete mass absorption occurring within 91 to 119 days through hydrolysis.
MONOCRYL™ is frequently used in procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract, bladder, reproductive tract, subcuticular closures, and fascia layers such as the linea alba, particularly in fast-healing patients. Its performance is ideal for tissues that require short-term support with minimal long-term foreign body presence.
