Description
5% Dextrose in 0.45% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution for intravenous administration. It contains dextrose (glucose) to provide a source of carbohydrate energy and sodium chloride to maintain electrolyte balance. The solution is isotonic and helps restore fluid levels in patients with dehydration or electrolyte imbalances. The presence of glucose supports metabolic energy needs, while sodium chloride helps maintain osmotic balance in the body.
This solution is commonly used for fluid replacement, maintenance therapy, and as a vehicle for drug delivery. It is indicated for patients requiring hydration, mild sodium supplementation, or glucose intake. The combination of dextrose and sodium chloride aids in preventing hypoglycemia and hyponatremia in patients unable to take oral fluids.
The solution is supplied in a 1000 mL Excel® flexible plastic bag, designed to facilitate easy handling and infusion. The Excel® bag is made of non-PVC, non-DEHP material to reduce the risk of plasticizer-related complications. It ensures sterility and compatibility with most intravenous administration sets.
