Description

Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% SDV 25 x 50 mL is a sterile, concentrated solution used primarily for the treatment of metabolic acidosis and as an alkalinizing agent in medical settings. The solution contains 8.4% sodium bicarbonate, which is equivalent to 84 mg of sodium bicarbonate per mL. 

It is commonly administered intravenously to correct acid-base imbalances, particularly in patients with renal failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, or severe lactic acidosis. The primary mechanism of sodium bicarbonate is to neutralize excess hydrogen ions (acid) in the bloodstream, thereby increasing the pH and restoring normal blood acid-base balance. 

This solution may also be used to treat certain drug overdoses, such as those from tricyclic antidepressants or aspirin, by promoting urinary alkalinization, which enhances renal excretion of the toxic substances. Sodium bicarbonate is supplied in single-dose vials, ensuring precise and controlled administration. Each vial contains 50 mL of solution, packaged in a sterile, non-pyrogenic container to maintain the integrity of the solution. The 25-vial pack is designed for use in hospital settings, emergency rooms, and intensive care units.
