Description

Sildenafil Citrate 100 mg is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor primarily used in the management of erectile dysfunction (ED). It enhances erectile response by increasing blood flow to the penile tissue during sexual stimulation. This is achieved by inhibiting PDE5, an enzyme that breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which regulates blood flow in the corpus cavernosum.

The recommended dosage is a single oral tablet taken approximately one hour before anticipated sexual activity. The onset of action varies but typically occurs within 30 to 60 minutes. Its effect may be delayed by a high-fat meal. Sildenafil should not be used more than once daily and is intended only for use as needed.

Caution is advised due to potential adverse effects such as hypotension, visual disturbances, headache, flushing, dyspepsia, and priapism. It is contraindicated in patients using nitrates or nitric oxide donors, due to the risk of severe hypotension. Use with alpha-blockers or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may enhance hypotensive effects.
