Description
Semaglutide OL 12.5 mg (2.5 mg/mL × 5 mL) is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used primarily for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic weight management. It is a synthetic analogue of human GLP-1, modified to resist enzymatic degradation and extend its duration of action.
This medication works by stimulating insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose levels, suppressing glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying. These actions contribute to improved glycemic control and reduced appetite, leading to weight reduction in individuals with obesity or overweight associated with comorbidities.
Common adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis, thyroid C-cell tumors, and gallbladder disease. Caution is advised in patients with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.
