Description

Derma Pak-its, now an Integra Lifesciences product, are sterile gauze packing strips intended for absorbing excess fluid oozing from wounds with some depth. These packing strips are available in a variety of pre-cut sizes to allow convenient cleaning of differently sized wounds. Either plain and iodoform Pak-Its can be used either in the dry state or soaked in another wound cleaning medication. Iodoform Pak-its are soaked in the disinfecting chemical triiodomethane, which also acts as an antiseptic preventing the wound from becoming infected.

Wounds can be closed or packed based on the physician’s discretion but may heal faster if closed and kept moist for about 5 days. Gauze packing strips can be readily applied to the wound without the need for further sterilizing and can be removed easily without fear of ripping or tearing, and they don’t leave any lint behind in the wound. The strips should be used along with secondary wound dressing that can keep the strips in place and prevent exposing the wound to external contaminants.

Checking the wound every day is recommended to detect infection or worsening due to undue constriction. The packing strip should be changed after 1 or 2 days. When removing or changing the packing strip, take care to avoid accidental rupturing of tissues that may have adhered to the gauze strip. If the wound doesn’t appear to heal as expected, consult your physician immediately.

These gauze strips are packed in a bottle with a special dispensing system that makes it convenient to pull out the strips without getting them tangled. Each bottle contains 5 yards (4.5 m) of gauze strips with a width of 0.25 in (0.63 cm) and each case contains 12 bottles. The price quoted on this page is for a case of 12 bottles. Pak-Its gauze strips are also available in widths of 0.5”, 1”, and 2”, and do not contain any natural latex. Note that Pak-its may also be sold in bottles without the special dispensing system.
