Description

Ozempic (Semaglutide) is a medication used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and weight management in obesity. It works by enhancing insulin secretion in response to meals, inhibiting glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying, which helps control blood sugar levels and reduce body weight. 

A significant risk associated with Ozempic is the potential development of thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma. Patients should be monitored for symptoms of pancreatitis, as the medication may increase the risk. When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, requiring careful blood sugar monitoring and potential dose adjustments.

Ozempic should be stored in a cool environment, and it is essential to monitor for gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, which are common side effects. It is not recommended for patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 due to the increased risk of thyroid tumors.
