Distributor’s Optifoam Gentle Super Absorbent (SA) bordered dressing is an advanced wound care solution meant for use as a primary or secondary dressing for wounds that are excessively exudating fluids. Earlier, this type of dressing was only available in hospitals but is now available for use at home. With a low profile, the design ensures that it’s readily and comfortably applicable to wounds in a sufficiently flexible manner. However, the Optifoam bordered dressing is non-sterile, so proper cleanroom procedure should be followed in applying the dressing.

In terms of its components, each dressing comprises a silicone face and border, a foam dressing, and a waterproof outer cover. The silicone face comprises the absorbent core, which sucks in the fluid seeping from the wound and prevents it from affecting the wound further. The border is laden with a silicone adhesive that offers a firm bond but remains easily removable, making it convenient to check the wound healing progress without damaging the skin around the wound. The silicone border is not meant to be cut to fit the wound, and doing so can affect the efficacy of the dressing.

This silicone/ foam dressing with a sacral shape measures 9” by 9” and is meant for application over partial and full-thickness wounds near the sacrum, which lies just below the spine. Its moisture vapor transmission rate can be adjusted based on the amount of fluid oozing from the wound, which helps ensure the wound can breathe - and is not occluded. The dressing should be changed after seven days or earlier if any fluid starts leaking from the dressing’s border.

Square-shaped dressings are also available for treating wounds in other areas of the body, such as bedsores. Optifoam SA dressings should not be used when treating third-degree burns.

Each box contains five individual Optifoam SA bordered dressings inside an educational packaging. Other types of Optifoam dressings are available from the same manufacturer, with different absorbing limits as well as with and without the silicone border.
