Mounjaro Prefilled Pen (Tirzepatide) Injection 15 mg/0.5 mL is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It functions as a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, promoting improved glycemic control. The medication enhances insulin secretion, reduces glucagon levels, and delays gastric emptying, contributing to better postprandial glucose regulation.

This injectable therapy is administered subcutaneously once weekly, with or without meals. It should be injected in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating sites with each dose. Careful monitoring is recommended, especially when used in combination with insulin or insulin secretagogues, due to an increased risk of hypoglycemia.

Mounjaro carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors. It is contraindicated in individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Patients should also be monitored for symptoms of pancreatitis, including persistent abdominal pain.
