Description
Kenalog injection is a 40 mg triamcinolone acetonide per ml injection or 400 mg triamcinolone acetonide per 10 ml. It is packed in a 10 ml multiple-dose vial. Each ml of sterile suspension (other than 40 mg triamcinolone acetonide) provides 0.65% sodium chloride, 0.99% benzyl alcohol, 0.75% carboxymethyl cellulose sodium, and 0.04% polysorbate 80. It is a synthetic glucocorticoid that acts as an anti-inflammatory.
KENALOG-40 injection is used via intramuscular or intra-articular routes only. Note that it should not be used intradermally. The injection is preferred when oral therapy is not suitable. Kenalog injection is used as an adjunctive therapy in acute gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and acute rheumatic carditis.
It is indicated for various allergic reactions that include asthma, contact or atopic dermatitis, drug-related hypersensitivity reactions, seasonal rhinitis, transfusion reaction and serum sickness. Kenalog injection is also used in dermatologic diseases such as exfoliative erythroderma, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, pemphigus, mycosis fungoides etc. Other indications for Kenalog injection include gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Neoplastic disease including lymphomas and leukemia, and ophthalmic diseases.
