Description

Humulin R is a rapid-acting insulin that is available as a 10ml vial. Each vial is a multiple-dose vial containing 100 units per ml. It is a sterile, colorless, aqueous solution. Humulin R is indicated in patients with diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control in paediatrics and adults. It works by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake which results in lowering blood glucose levels. It also inhibits proteolysis and lipolysis. Thus increasing protein synthesis.

The dose is injected subcutaneously into the upper arm, thigh, buttocks or abdomen half an hour before meals. For intravenous infusion, administer it via 0.9% sodium chloride solution for injection. Humulin R is used subcutaneously in combination with intermediate or long-acting insulin. Note that humulin R must not be mixed with other insulin preparations except for humulin N. Patients using Humulin R vials must not share syringes or needles with another person. Diluted humulin R for subcutaneous injection use may be stored for 28 days when refrigerated and for 14 days at room temperature.
