Description

Desmopressin Amp 4 mcg/mL 1 mL is a synthetic analog of vasopressin, a naturally occurring antidiuretic hormone. It is primarily used to treat conditions associated with a deficiency of vasopressin, such as diabetes insipidus, hemophilia A, and von Willebrand disease. Desmopressin acts by increasing water reabsorption in the kidneys, reducing urine output and helping to maintain fluid balance.

The pharmacologic action of desmopressin involves binding to vasopressin receptors in the kidneys, which stimulates the reabsorption of water, concentrating the urine. It also promotes the release of clotting factors, particularly von Willebrand factor and factor VIII, thus improving hemostasis in patients with bleeding disorders.
