Description

Clonidine HCl 0.3 mg Tablets are primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by stimulating receptors in the brain known as alpha-2 adrenergic receptors. This action decreases the amount of certain chemicals in the blood, leading to a reduction in the heart rate and dilation of blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure.

In addition to hypertension, clonidine is sometimes used to manage withdrawal symptoms in patients undergoing treatment for opioid addiction. This medication can also be prescribed to treat certain symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), particularly in patients who do not respond to traditional stimulant medications.

Clonidine is absorbed quickly from the gastrointestinal tract and reaches peak levels in the bloodstream within a few hours. Its effects can last for up to 24 hours, making it suitable for once-daily dosing. It is crucial that this medication be tapered off slowly under the guidance of a healthcare provider, as sudden discontinuation may lead to rebound hypertension.
