Cleocin SDV (Clindamycin Phosphate) 600 mg/4 mL is a sterile injectable antibiotic formulated for intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) administration. It is classified as a lincosamide antibiotic and is effective against a wide range of gram-positive aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The formulation is intended for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including those affecting the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, bone, joint, and intra-abdominal regions.

The mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing peptide chain elongation. This results in bacterial growth suppression and eventual cell death. Clindamycin demonstrates good tissue penetration, including bone, making it suitable for osteomyelitis and joint infections.

Cleocin SDV is typically reserved for infections where penicillins or other first-line antibiotics are ineffective or contraindicated.
