SpeediCath^® is manufactured by Coloplast which calls it the first instantly ready-to-use intermittent catheter, with separate models available in various sizes for men and women. It is meant for use by patients who either suffer chronic urine retention and/or are unable to empty the urine in their bladder completely. Using the single-use SpeediCath^® Standard Male catheter requires men to push the device into their urethra, allowing it to access and empty the bladder. Patients should only use a catheter as advised by their physician and report any infection or inability to use the catheter immediately.

Covered with a lubricant that absorbs water, SpeediCath^® is designed for a smooth, pain-free patient experience by avoiding any tissue damage while inserting it into the urethra and bladder. The lubricant comprises a base coating whose function is to prevent the top coating from rubbing or wearing off while remaining intact, while the top coating is hydrophilic and reduces friction. Another key SpeediCath^® design feature is the eyelet with polished edges that appear contiguous to the catheter and prevents friction damage within the urethra.

The SpeediCath^® catheter is packaged in a saline solution that hydrates the lubricant coating and ensures that the catheter can be used without needing further lubrication. Further, the packaging comes with an adhesive spot and pull ring to support opening the package and extracting the catheter with one hand. This speeds up the process of using the catheter and allows patients greater discretion as they can catheterize themselves without needing support. The package can also be folded and kept hidden for up to 3 hours, adding to the patient’s discretion.

No part of the SpeediCath^® catheter is made from either PVC or phthalates, with the tube manufactured using PVC-free polyurethane, and the lubricant is polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). SpeediCath^® catheters may be equipped with a Tiemann or Nelaton tip also made using polyurethane. All SpeediCath^® materials are tested to improve their environmental sustainability and are fully recyclable.
