The Coude catheter is a specific type of Foley catheter characterized by its slightly curved tip. This design facilitates easier insertion in patients with urethral obstructions or an enlarged prostate, conditions that make the passage of a straight catheter challenging. The curved tip navigates the anatomical structures more effectively, reducing discomfort and minimizing the risk of injury during insertion.

Latex is a common material used in the construction of many Foley catheters, including the Coude type. Latex catheters are flexible and offer a high degree of comfort for patients during long-term catheterization. However, due to potential allergic reactions in some patients, silicone alternatives are also available.

A 16Fr catheter, which denotes a 16 French size, is a commonly used gauge that balances ease of insertion and effective drainage. The 10mL capacity refers to the volume of fluid used to inflate the retention balloon that keeps the catheter securely in place within the bladder.
