Description

Bicillin L-A PFS 600,000 units is a sterile, injectable suspension of benzathine penicillin G, a long-acting antibiotic in the penicillin class. These include Group A streptococcal infections, rheumatic fever, and syphilis. The active ingredient, benzathine penicillin G, achieves prolonged therapeutic concentrations due to its low solubility and slow absorption from the intramuscular injection site, providing sustained antibacterial activity.

This formulation is supplied as a single-dose prefilled syringe containing 600,000 units of benzathine penicillin G. It includes a 21-gauge, thin-wall 1-inch needle designed specifically for pediatric intramuscular administration. The suspension is white to off-white and should be visually inspected for particulate matter or discoloration prior to use.

Bicillin L-A PFS requires storage under refrigerated conditions, between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F), to maintain its potency and stability. It should not be frozen, as this may compromise its efficacy. The product should be brought to room temperature prior to administration to ensure optimal patient comfort during injection.
