Benlysta (belimumab) 200 mg/mL Injection Auto-Injector is a biologic medication used for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis in patients receiving standard therapy. It is specifically indicated for patients aged five years and older with active, autoantibody-positive SLE and for adult patients with lupus nephritis. By targeting B-lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS), it helps regulate excessive immune system activity, reducing disease severity and progression.

The active ingredient, belimumab, is a monoclonal antibody that binds to BLyS, preventing its interaction with B cells. This mechanism inhibits the survival of autoreactive B cells, reducing the production of autoantibodies responsible for inflammation and organ damage. The reduction of these pathogenic B cells helps manage lupus symptoms, decreasing flares and improving long-term disease control.

Benlysta is supplied as a clear to opalescent, colorless to pale yellow solution in a prefilled auto-injector for subcutaneous administration. Each single-dose prefilled syringe delivers 200 mg of belimumab in 1 mL of solution. The injection is typically administered once weekly in the thigh or abdomen, rotating sites to minimize injection site reactions.
