Description
DBM-BACITRACIN is a white to pale buff hygroscopic powder for injection that is supplied in a vial. Each vial contains 50,000 units of bacitracin. Bacitracin belongs to a class of antibiotics. The parenteral therapy of bacitracin is administered via intramuscular route only. The injection is used to treat a wide range of infections, including skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections. It is also commonly used to treat post-surgical infections and to prevent infections in patients with compromised immune systems.
The medication is particularly effective against gram-positive bacteria, making it ideal for treating infections caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species. Administration via intramuscular route is rapid and complete. Note that the drug vial parenteral route is nephrotoxic, therefore, it must be avoided in patients already on nephrotoxic drugs. The use of parenteral bacitracin is restricted to infants pneumonia and empyema caused by Staphylococcus bacteria.
