Description

Amoxicillin 500 mg capsules are a broad-spectrum penicillin-class antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of the bacteria. Amoxicillin is effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is commonly prescribed for infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, urinary tract infections, and skin infections.

The capsules are designed for oral administration and contain 500 mg of amoxicillin as the active ingredient. They are typically red and blue or red and white, with the dosage strength marked on the capsule. Amoxicillin can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with food may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

Amoxicillin capsules should be stored at controlled room temperature, between 20°C and 25°C (68°F to 77°F), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, light, and moisture. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and rash. Serious but rare adverse effects include hypersensitivity reactions, such as anaphylaxis, or Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea.
