Description

Alendronate Sodium 70 mg tablet is a bisphosphonate used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men. It is also indicated for the treatment of Paget’s disease of bone. Alendronate works by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, which helps to increase bone mass and reduce the risk of fractures, particularly in the spine, hip, and wrist.

This product is supplied in a blister pack containing four tablets, each delivering 70 mg of alendronate sodium. The standard dosing regimen involves taking one tablet orally once a week, preferably on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before the first food or drink of the day. The tablet should be taken with a full glass of water while the patient remains upright for at least 30 minutes to prevent irritation of the esophagus and facilitate proper absorption.

Common side effects of alendronate sodium include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia. In rare cases, more serious side effects like esophageal ulcers or jaw osteonecrosis may occur, particularly with long-term use or in individuals with other risk factors.
