Description

Akovaz (Ephedrine Sulfate) 50 mg/mL is a sterile single-dose vial indicated for the treatment of clinically significant hypotension occurring in the setting of anesthesia. Ephedrine sulfate is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a vasopressor, restoring blood pressure levels by increasing vascular tone and cardiac output.

The mechanism of action of ephedrine involves the stimulation of alpha-adrenergic and beta-adrenergic receptors. This leads to vasoconstriction, which increases systemic vascular resistance, and positive inotropic and chronotropic effects on the heart, enhancing cardiac output. These effects contribute to a rapid improvement in blood pressure during anesthesia-related hypotensive episodes.

Akovaz is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ephedrine, during situations where vasopressors are contraindicated, or in those with severe cardiac conditions such as tachyarrhythmias. Adverse effects may include tachycardia, hypertension, headache, nausea, and restlessness. Close monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and overall cardiovascular function is essential during administration.
