Description

Tretinoin Cream 0.05% is indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. As a derivative of vitamin A, tretinoin promotes cell turnover and prevents the formation of new comedones by modifying abnormal follicular keratinization. Its therapeutic effects also include reduction of existing lesions and improvement in skin texture.

Application is typically once daily at bedtime, with a thin layer applied to thoroughly cleansed and dry affected areas. Local adverse effects include erythema, dryness, peeling, and burning sensation, particularly during the initial weeks of therapy. Photosensitivity is common, and exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays should be minimized.

Use of tretinoin with other topical products containing astringents, alcohol, or exfoliants should be avoided to reduce the risk of cumulative irritation. Tretinoin is classified as pregnancy category C due to potential teratogenic effects observed in animal studies; it should not be used during pregnancy. Caution is also advised in individuals with eczema or sunburned skin.
