Description

Sertraline 50 mg is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used primarily for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and panic disorder. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the synaptic cleft, increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which helps regulate mood, emotions, and behavior.

Each tablet contains 50 mg of sertraline as the active ingredient, along with excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, and sodium starch glycolate. The tablets are film-coated for ease of administration. The recommended dosage varies based on the condition being treated, with an initial dose often set at 50 mg per day.

Common side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, diarrhea, fatigue, and insomnia. Some patients may experience sexual dysfunction, agitation, or increased sweating. Serious but rare adverse effects include serotonin syndrome, suicidal ideation, and withdrawal symptoms upon abrupt discontinuation.
