Description
Procrit® (epoetin alfa) 40,000 U/mL injection is a recombinant human erythropoietin used to treat anemia caused by chronic kidney disease (CKD), chemotherapy, or certain other conditions. Epoetin alfa stimulates erythropoiesis by binding to and activating erythropoietin receptors on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, leading to the production of red blood cells.
This medication is administered via subcutaneous or intravenous injection, depending on the condition being treated. The single-dose vial contains 1 mL of epoetin alfa, with a concentration of 40,000 U/mL. The dosing schedule varies depending on the patient's condition, but typically involves regular injections until an adequate hemoglobin level is achieved.
Common side effects of Procrit® include hypertension, headache, nausea, and injection site reactions. Serious adverse effects can include blood clot formation, seizures, and allergic reactions. Patients receiving Procrit® should be monitored for blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, and other relevant clinical parameters during treatment.
