Ozempic (Semaglutide) 0.25 mg/1.5 mL is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by mimicking the natural GLP-1 hormone, which enhances insulin secretion in response to meals, reduces glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying. These actions help to lower blood sugar levels while also contributing to weight loss, making it an effective treatment option for patients with type 2 diabetes who are also overweight or obese.

Each pre-filled pen contains 0.25 mg of semaglutide in 1.5 mL of solution, designed for subcutaneous injection. Initially, the recommended dose is 0.25 mg once a week, which may be gradually increased to 0.5 mg, and further adjusted based on the patient’s blood glucose control. The injection should be administered once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of the day, with or without food.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. Serious side effects, though rare, may include pancreatitis, diabetic retinopathy, and kidney problems. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and renal function is advised during treatment.Ozempic should be stored in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) and not frozen.
