Description

Humira® (adalimumab) is a biologic medication used to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and plaque psoriasis. It is a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor that works by targeting and inhibiting TNF-alpha, a protein involved in the inflammatory process. By blocking TNF-alpha, Humira® reduces inflammation and helps to alleviate symptoms associated with autoimmune diseases.

The medication is delivered via subcutaneous injection using the Humira® pen, containing a 40 mg/0.4 mL dosage. The pen is pre-filled and designed for self-administration by patients who have been instructed by their healthcare provider. Humira® is typically administered every two weeks for most conditions, although the dosing schedule may vary based on the disease being treated.

Common side effects of Humira® include injection site reactions, headaches, and upper respiratory tract infections. Serious side effects can include increased risk of infections, such as tuberculosis, fungal infections, and bacterial infections, as well as the potential for certain cancers.
