Finasteride 1 mg is an oral medication classified as a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, primarily used for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) in men. It works by reducing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, a hormone responsible for hair follicle miniaturization, leading to hair loss. By inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, finasteride slows hair loss and promotes hair regrowth in individuals with male pattern baldness.

The mechanism of action involves blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT, which is a key factor in follicular shrinkage and progressive hair thinning. Lowering DHT levels helps maintain existing hair and, in some cases, stimulates new hair growth. The medication is most effective when taken continuously, with noticeable results typically observed after three to six months of regular use.
