Description

Clindamycin Gel 1% x 30 g is indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. As a lincosamide antibiotic, clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, effectively reducing Cutibacterium acnes on the skin. The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties contribute to decreased lesion formation and reduced severity of acne outbreaks.

The gel is applied as a thin layer to the affected skin areas, typically once or twice daily, as prescribed. Common adverse effects include localized skin irritation, dryness, and peeling. Although rare with topical use, systemic absorption may lead to serious gastrointestinal effects such as pseudomembranous colitis, particularly in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated colitis.

Caution is advised when combining clindamycin with other topical acne treatments due to the potential for cumulative irritation or reduced efficacy. Prolonged use may contribute to the development of bacterial resistance, reducing the long-term effectiveness of antibiotic therapy. Off-label use includes management of inflammatory lesions in rosacea.
