Description

Celebrex (celecoxib) 200 mg capsules are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat various conditions, including arthritis, acute pain, and menstrual discomfort. The active ingredient, celecoxib, specifically inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes. By selectively targeting COX-2, Celebrex reduces inflammation and pain without significantly affecting COX-1, which is responsible for protecting the stomach lining.

Celebrex is indicated for the management of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used to alleviate acute pain, such as post-surgical pain and primary dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation). It may be prescribed to reduce the risk of colorectal adenomas in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis.

The usual dosage of Celebrex for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis is 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily, depending on the severity of the condition. Common side effects of Celebrex include gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Cardiovascular risks, including increased blood pressure and potential for heart attack or stroke, should be monitored in long-term use.
