RhoGAM Ultra-Filtered Plus Prefilled Syringe is a sterile preparation of Rho(D) Immune Globulin (Human) designed to prevent Rh sensitization in Rho(D)-negative individuals exposed to Rh-positive blood. Each single-dose syringe contains 300 mcg (1500 IU) of anti-D immunoglobulin, the standard dose for preventing maternal alloimmunization during pregnancy or after Rh-incompatible transfusion.

The mechanism of action involves the suppression of the immune response to Rh-positive red blood cells in Rh-negative individuals. The anti-D antibodies in RhoGAM bind to Rh-positive erythrocytes, promoting their removal before the recipient’s immune system can recognize and mount an immune response, thereby preventing sensitization and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) in subsequent pregnancies.

RhoGAM is thimerosal-free, reducing the risk of mercury exposure. It is administered intramuscularly and should be used within the prescribed timeframe to ensure efficacy. In cases of significant fetal-maternal hemorrhage (FMH) exceeding 15 mL of Rh-positive red blood cells, additional doses may be necessary to neutralize excess Rh-positive erythrocytes.
