Ethilon Mono Black 5-0 18 PS-4 is a nonabsorbable surgical suture composed of a long-chain aliphatic polymer, specifically polyamide 6. The monofilament structure provides smooth passage through tissue and minimizes tissue trauma during suturing. It is designed for precise wound closure and offers reliable tensile strength for extended periods.

The suture is dyed black to enhance visibility against tissue, aiding in surgical precision and reducing the risk of unintentional retention. Its minimal capillarity lowers the risk of fluid absorption and microbial migration along the suture line. Ethilon maintains its mechanical integrity without significant degradation in the body, making it suitable for long-term tissue support.

The biological response to Ethilon is characterized by minimal acute inflammation, followed by gradual fibrous encapsulation. Complete encapsulation may take one to two years, as the material degrades slowly without inducing excessive foreign body reaction. Its low tissue reactivity makes it suitable for use in areas where long-term tissue approximation is required.
