Description

Xtandi (enzalutamide) 40 mg is a nonsteroidal androgen receptor inhibitor used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It blocks the androgen receptor signaling pathway, reducing tumor cell growth and proliferation. It is indicated for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC). It is administered orally and is typically used in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Each tablet contains 40 mg of enzalutamide and is formulated for once-daily dosing. The standard regimen consists of 160 mg (four tablets) taken at the same time each day, with or without food. It is rapidly absorbed, reaching peak plasma concentration within 1 to 2 hours. The drug is metabolized in the liver primarily by CYP2C8 and CYP3A4 enzymes, with elimination occurring mainly through feces and urine.

Common adverse effects include fatigue, hypertension, hot flashes, and decreased appetite. More severe risks include seizures, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES), and fractures. Patients with a history of seizures or neurological disorders require caution. Blood pressure monitoring is recommended due to the risk of hypertension.
