Description

Tranexamic acid 650 mg tablet is an antifibrinolytic agent used to reduce or prevent excessive bleeding in conditions associated with hyperfibrinolysis. It inhibits plasminogen activation, preventing the breakdown of fibrin clots and stabilizing hemostasis. It is commonly indicated for conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding, surgery-related bleeding, and trauma-induced hemorrhage.

The drug is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, reaching peak plasma concentration within three hours. It is widely distributed in tissues, including the endometrium, where it exerts its antifibrinolytic effect. It has a half-life of approximately two hours and is primarily excreted in the urine. Dosage adjustments are necessary in patients with renal impairment to prevent accumulation and potential toxicity.

Adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness. Less common but serious reactions include thromboembolic events, vision disturbances, and hypersensitivity reactions. Patients should be monitored for signs of thrombosis, particularly those with a history of clotting disorders.
