Description

SURGIFOAM SG 50CM 4 is a sterile, absorbable hemostatic sponge composed of porcine-derived gelatin. It is designed to aid in the control of bleeding during surgical procedures where conventional methods such as pressure or ligature are not sufficient. Its water-insoluble, malleable structure allows it to conform easily to irregular wound surfaces, providing effective coverage and hemostasis in complex surgical environments.

This hemostatic agent can be applied dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution, depending on surgical preference and procedural requirements. It is suitable for use in general, cardiovascular, orthopedic, and other types of surgeries, excluding ophthalmic procedures. Once applied, the sponge rapidly absorbs blood and body fluids, expanding to fill the wound cavity and creating a barrier that promotes clot formation.

SURGIFOAM functions as a physical matrix that facilitates platelet adhesion and aggregation, critical steps in the body's natural clotting process. This enhances localized hemostasis and minimizes blood loss during surgery. The gelatin material is gradually absorbed by the body, eliminating the need for removal.
