Description

SURGIFOAM® Sponge is a sterile, absorbable hemostatic device composed of porcine-derived gelatin. It features a water-insoluble, malleable structure designed to conform to the surgical site. Its porous consistency enables it to be easily applied to irregular surfaces while maintaining its form. This sponge is typically used either dry or moistened with sterile sodium chloride solution depending on procedural requirements.

The product is indicated for use during surgical interventions where conventional methods of bleeding control, such as ligature or pressure, are ineffective or impractical. It is particularly useful in managing capillary, venous, and small arterial bleeding. SURGIFOAM® assists in hemostasis by providing a scaffold for platelet adhesion and aggregation, thereby promoting clot formation and aiding in wound stability.

Its absorbable nature ensures that it does not require surgical removal, as it is naturally broken down by the body over time. This characteristic minimizes the risk of foreign body reaction and facilitates healing without additional intervention. The sponge size—12 cm square by 7 mm thick—makes it suitable for moderate-sized surgical sites.
