Sodium Chloride, Preservative Free 0.9% IV Solution 100 mL is a sterile, nonpyrogenic intravenous solution designed to replenish fluids and electrolytes in patients. This solution contains 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl), providing 9 g/L of sodium chloride, which is commonly used for hydration and electrolyte balance. It is indicated for patients requiring intravenous administration of water and electrolytes due to fluid loss, dehydration, or electrolyte imbalances.

The solution is formulated to have a pH of 5.0, which falls within the acceptable range of 4.5 to 7.0. This pH level ensures compatibility with the human body and minimizes the risk of adverse reactions during intravenous administration. Sodium Chloride Injection, USP contains no antimicrobial agents, making it a preservative-free solution suitable for single-dose use.

The 100 mL volume is supplied in a VIAFLEX plastic container, which is made from a specially formulated polyvinyl chloride (PL 146 Plastic). This container design offers flexibility and durability, ensuring safe and convenient handling and administration of the solution. It is important to note that solutions in contact with the plastic container may leach small amounts of chemical components, such as di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), though this occurs in minimal quantities.
