Description

Sildenafil 20 mg is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) by enhancing blood flow to the penile tissue. It works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, leading to increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which relaxes smooth muscles and improves vasodilation in the corpus cavernosum. An erection occurs in response to sexual stimulation when cGMP-mediated vasodilation is sustained.

Each tablet contains 200 mg of sildenafil as the active ingredient, along with excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and a film coating for ease of administration. Sildenafil has an onset of action within 30 to 60 minutes, with effects lasting approximately four to six hours. 

Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, dizziness, and visual disturbances. More serious adverse effects, such as priapism, sudden hearing loss, and severe hypotension, may occur in rare cases. Sildenafil is contraindicated in individuals using nitrates or guanylate cyclase stimulators due to the risk of life-threatening hypotension.
