Description

Promethazine 50 mg/mL is a sterile injectable solution containing promethazine hydrochloride, an antihistamine with antiemetic, sedative, and anticholinergic properties. Promethazine works by blocking H1 histamine receptors and affecting the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the central nervous system, thereby providing symptomatic relief.

The medication is supplied in ampules, each containing 25 units of 50 mg/mL promethazine hydrochloride solution. The ampule format ensures accurate dosing and sterile administration, minimizing contamination risks. Promethazine is administered via intramuscular injection, as intravenous administration carries a higher risk of severe complications, including tissue injury.

Adverse effects associated with promethazine include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and, in some cases, hypotension.
