Description
Prolia® (denosumab) is a monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk for fractures. It works by inhibiting RANK ligand (RANKL), a key regulator of osteoclast activity, reducing bone resorption and increasing bone mass and strength. Prolia is used in patients who have failed or are intolerant to other osteoporosis treatments.
Prolia is supplied as a single-use prefilled syringe containing 60 mg/mL in 1 mL for subcutaneous administration. It is administered once every six months in the upper arm, thigh, or abdomen. It should be used in conjunction with adequate calcium and vitamin D supplementation to support bone health and reduce fracture risk.
The medication must be stored in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F) and should not be frozen. Before administration, the syringe may be allowed to reach room temperature for up to 30 minutes. It should be protected from direct light and used immediately after removal from refrigeration. Proper disposal of the syringe is required after a single use.
