Description

Humulin R is a rapid-acting insulin that is available as a 3ml vial. Each vial is a multiple-dose vial containing 100 units per ml. It is a sterile, colorless, aqueous solution. Humulin R is indicated in patients with diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control in pediatrics and adults. It works by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake which results in lowering blood glucose levels. It also inhibits proteolysis and lipolysis. Thus increasing protein synthesis.

The dose is injected subcutaneously into the abdomen, upper arm, thigh, or buttocks half an hour before meals. For IV infusion, administer it via 0.9% sodium chloride solution for injection. Humulin R is used subcutaneously in combination with intermediate or long-acting insulin. Diluted humulin R for subcutaneous injection use may be stored for 28 days when refrigerated and for 14 days at room temperature. Note that humulin R must not be mixed with other insulin preparations except for humulin N. Patients using Humulin R vials must not share syringes or needles with another person.
