Description
Darzalex 400 mg/20 mL vial contains daratumumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD38, a glycoprotein highly expressed on multiple myeloma cells. Daratumumab binds to CD38, inducing direct tumor cell death through various mechanisms, including antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), and apoptosis.
This medication is indicated for the treatment of multiple myeloma in both newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory settings. Darzalex is used in combination with other agents such as bortezomib, melphalan, and prednisone for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma, or with lenalidomide and dexamethasone for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
Common side effects include fatigue, nausea, anemia, and infusion reactions such as fever and chills. Serious adverse events can involve infections, thrombocytopenia, and respiratory symptoms. The product should be stored in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light, and used within the recommended period after reconstitution.
