Description

Pneumovax is a 0.5 ml of the prefilled syringe containing 25 micrograms of 23 different types of pneumococcal polysaccharide serotypes. The vaccine is a clear colorless solution for injection intended to administer for Intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) use only. The Pneumovax vaccine is indicated for active immunization against pneumococcal disease in children 2 years of age or more, adolescents and adults. The vaccine will prevent infections of the lungs, brain, spinal cord and blood. It is not recommended for children below 2 years of age.

Also, vaccination during radiation therapy or chemotherapy should be avoided. Revaccination is not recommended at an interval of three years or less since there is an increased risk of adverse reactions. Special care must be taken to avoid vaccines getting into the blood vessels. The pneumovax vaccine should not be used during pregnancy. Do Not freeze the vaccine, store it in a refrigerator.
