Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) 12.5 mg/0.5 mL is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It enhances insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying, leading to improved blood glucose control. It contributes to weight loss by reducing appetite and promoting satiety, making it beneficial for patients requiring both glycemic control and weight management.

Each prefilled pen contains 12.5 mg of tirzepatide in 0.5 mL of solution, designed for once-weekly subcutaneous injection. The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg per week for four weeks, followed by an increase based on the patient’s tolerance and glycemic response. The injection can be administered at any time of the day, with or without food, in areas such as the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. Serious but less frequent side effects may include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and potential worsening of diabetic retinopathy.
