Description
Lidocaine Hydrochloride Injection, 2%, is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, aqueous solution designed for parenteral administration. It is a local anesthetic that stabilizes neuronal membranes by inhibiting ion fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This formulation contains methylparaben as a preservative and is supplied in a multi-dose vial, making it suitable for repeated withdrawals.
The injection is indicated for local anesthesia in various medical procedures, including infiltration, nerve block, and intravenous regional anesthesia. It is not intended for epidural or caudal administration due to potential safety concerns. The onset of anesthesia occurs rapidly, typically within minutes, depending on the route of administration and dosage.
Precautions must be taken to avoid intravascular injection, as systemic absorption can lead to toxic effects such as central nervous system excitation or depression, cardiovascular disturbances, and allergic reactions. Patients with hepatic impairment, cardiac conditions, or hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type require careful monitoring.
